Survivors thanked, relatives distraught

A terrible explosion took place in Siddikbazar at around half past five on Tuesday afternoon. Those injured in the incident are undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. The injured are thanking God for their survival. Relatives are shocked and upset.

The morgue of the emergency department was locked in a dark place in a corner of the balcony of Dhaka Medical College Hospital. One went there twice to clear the doubt and saw the lock. When asked whether he was looking for someone or not, he said in a confused manner, ‘We have not found anyone in the Siddikbazar incident. Where to find such a big hospital?’ This person almost ran away without another word.

The patients admitted to this hospital still cannot believe that they are alive. Along with thanking the creator, he asked for repeated prayers from everyone. Relatives with the patient are confused and shocked. Relatives of the patient were reluctant to talk to anyone further because of the uncertain future. Md. A person named Mamun said that no one of his own was injured or killed. However, some people who were known to work were injured and admitted to the hospital, they came to the hospital to see them.

On Tuesday around 5.50 pm, a huge explosion took place in a seven-storey building known as Queen Sanitary Market in Siddiqbazar, near the BRTC bus counter in Gulistan. Three of the injured persons are in the intensive care unit (ICU) of the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. Another is in ICU of Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

‘Thank you. I don’t think I’ll live’

32-year-old Sunny Hasan’s face is almost entirely wrapped in bandages. He used to work in a shop selling sanitary products in Siddikbazar. Father Abdul Motaleb is sitting shocked in front of his son’s condition. He just said with annoyance on his face, the boy is a little better than before.

48-year-old Shahidul has an oxygen mask on his face. The whole head is swollen. His wife Manchura Begum said that Shahidul’s lips are also stitched, so he is unable to speak. The couple has three daughters. Shahidul told Manchura Begum that she was having pain in her leg. Manchura held his feet and said, “It’s torn everywhere.” There is no place to press your feet.

25-year-old Saiful Islam told the reporter first, ‘Thank you. I don’t think I’ll live, but I’m still left.’ Narrating the incident, Sundarban Courier Service worker Saiful said that he heard a loud noise. Then he could not see anything around him in the dust. People are lying next to it. The streets did not understand anything.’ As far as he can remember, he seems to have left the place over the dead bodies of the two men. One of his colleagues brought him to the hospital. Saiful’s head is cracked, hands hurt. However, he also complained that he had to wait for a long time to get services for various complications, from getting tickets to the hospital, until then, blood was coming out of his head. Later, the doctors performed many stitches on his head.

Saiful’s child is three years old. Saiful said, some medicines have to be bought in the hospital. His wealth is the salary money received from the company, there is no other savings. However, one of the Sundarban Courier Service came to the hospital yesterday and said that the company will be there if necessary. Saiful does not know how many days he will have to stay in the hospital or where the expenses will be met.

Jahangir Hossain and Khalilur Rahman are two brothers. Both work in a seed production company. Two brothers went to a courier service in the destroyed building of Siddikbazar to courier the goods on Tuesday. Jahangir Hossain left the building after depositing the goods for the courier. Khalilur Rahman has not come out yet. Then 45-year-old Khalilur Rahman had to be admitted to the hospital.
